The fallout continues from Wayne Rooney’s binge behaviour over the weekend, after The Sun had ‘exposed’ the Manchester United striker smoking, urinating in the street and singing until 5.20am in Manchester. According to the tabloid, Utd boss Alex Ferguson is considering resting the England international for Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea as punishment.
Rooney is still set to play tomorrow against the Airtricity League XI, the first match-up in the newly-launched Aviva Stadium. Ferguson is apparently still furious with his striker, however, and may demand fitness reports during the week to assess his star’s current health conditions.
In transfer news, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp may be moving for loan deals to secure Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy and AC Milan’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar rather than paying outright (Daily Mirror). On the other hand, AC Milan could offer Huntelaar to Spurs in a straight swap for the North London side’s Giovani dos Santos (Daily Mail).
Finally, Liverpool have just 10 days to decide on whether to accept Chinese businessman Kenny Huang’s offer to take over the club (The Sun). Billionaire Huang has promised to take over the clubs debt, make available transfer funds, and implement the club’s long-gestating plans for a new 60,000-seat stadium.
