There was only one winner. This loyal follower of the cricket green army in the West Indies is an inspiration to us all as we take on England today. Come on Ireland!
Tonight’s Telly
Pick of the night: Shameless, Channel 4, 10pm
It’s nearly at the end of the series in Chatsworth and things are getting as crazy as ever in working-class Manchester. Joe’s determination to start a new life with Karen gathers pace when his father dies and he finally persuades her to leave the estate with him. When she tries to come clean to Jamie, he has a few confessions of his own to make, which force Joe to take drastic action. Some classic antics from Frank as usual.
Sporting highlight: Celtic v Rangers, Sky Sports 3, 7.30pm
It’s the final Old Firm derby of the season as Celtic play for pride following a disastrous season. Rangers comfortably won the league last weekend and will really want to rub salt in the wounds of their bitter rivals. Irish trio of Robbie Keane, Darren O’Dea and Aiden McGeady were all on the scoresheet for the hoops at the weekend and we expect a cracking match tonight. Form simply goes out the window.
More TV: Dirty money: The story of the Criminal Assets Bureau, TV3, 10pm.
This is a repeat of the show presented by Paul Williams but it is a great chance to catch it if you haven’t seen it. This is the story of the CAB, which was set up in 1996 to recover the proceeds of organised crime in Ireland. The series begins with a look at the events that led to the bureau’s establishment, including the murder of crime reporter Veronica Guerin. Not to be missed.
Mood Swingometer
Today we are feeling… Excited.
It’s Tuesday – and later on two cracking derbies will have arrived for us to enjoy. Celtic play Rangers for pride over in Scotland, but its Ireland against England at the Twenty20 in cricket.
It doesn’t matter what the sport is – there’s nothing like a competitive encounter with the English to make us well up with green pride. The match gets underway at 6pm and we cannot wait.
Olé olé olé!
Live like JOE
Live like JOE…… Be nice to animals.
Ok, so not everybody likes every kind of animal, but here we are on about the dogs and cats of this world or perhaps our feathered friends.
A lot of these poor buggers have to fend for themselves and here at JOE we don’t like to hear of animal cruelty – like that awful dog fighting that goes on in a horrific underworld that exists here in Ireland.
So the next time some mongrel appears at your door step, or some bird lands in your garden (not some drunk one in heels), give them a little treat or a friendly pat. They can’t just go into Mickey D’s and neck a burger like us when they feel the stomach growl.
We’re not telling you to turn into Ace Ventura but just bear it in mind (excuse the pun).
