06/07 JOE’s Daily Double

Racing from Pontefract and a World Cup yellow card corker form the basis of Tuesday's Daily Double.

JOE

The last race at Pontefract is the one that catches our eye from a betting point of view today, where top weight DUTIFUL is the pick.

Rivals such as Danceintothelight look no better than selling class while the task has been made that bit easier by the fact that Nurai, who got the run of the race up the inside when victorious over the course and distance last week, is a non-runner.

Mick Channon’s gelding picked up well to win from off the pace in a slowly-run race last time and could be capable of defying top weight off a five-pound higher mark here.

In the first World Cup semi-final, we’re going to reach deep into left-field and try to pull a rabbit from a hat in Paddy Power’s first card market.

MARTIN CACERES, the Barcelona nobody who was on loan at Juventus last season, is expected to be the player to come into the Uruguay team at left back in place of the suspended Jorge Fucile.

Caceres, who is more at home at right back or centre half in any case, has yet to play a game at these finals and the prospect of coming up against Arjen Robben should fill him with dread.

Robben was fouled eight times by Brazil last Friday, with Michel Bastos miraculously escaping a second yellow and Felipe Melo seeing red for stamping on the unstoppable Bayern Munich star, so Caceres is a nice price to be the first man into referee Ravshan Irmatov’s notebook this evening.

JOE’s Daily Double: Dutiful (Pontefract, 5.20 @ 5/2) & Martin Caceres to be the first player shown a card (Uruguay-Holland, 14/1)
