Liven up a bleak Monday afternoon with a punt on some US Open tennis and racing at Roscommon, the subjects of today’s Daily Double.
Swedish tennis player and world number five Robin Soderling takes on world number 23 Albert Montanes from Spain in what should be a good match in the US Open at Flushing Meadows.
Montanes has never been beyond the fourth round in a grand slam, while former French Open finalist Soderling made it to the quarter final of the US Open in 2009.
It should be a tight match, but we reckon Soderling should prevail three sets to one. For that there are odds of 11/4 available.
Domestic racing today is at Roscommon and we like the look of a Michael Brassil gelding who seems to be a little overpriced in the 7.05 conditional handicap.
It’s been a while; three years in fact, since REKAAB has been in the winner’s enclosure, but the seven year old ran well at the same track at the start of last month and also looked impressive at Ballinrobe two weeks ago.
The ground is soft in Roscommon and there have already been a few withdrawals but at 8/1, we reckon Rekaab has a decent shout of ending his losing drought this evening.
