07/09 JOE’s Daily Double

After a successful punt on the tennis yesterday, we’re going for two flutters on the football to produce the goods for today’s Daily Double.

After a battling, yet less than impressive performance against Armenia in the stifling heat of Yerevan on Friday, Ireland should have it a lot easier against amateur outfit Andorra at the Aviva Stadium this evening.

Against a side ranked 201 in the world and whose players include a guy who works in Argos and another lad who works in a ski shop, there should be goals aplenty for Ireland this evening. Giovanni Trapattoni’s naturally cautious approach and the fact that Andorra lost only 2-0 at home to group heavyweights Russia, however, would suggest that it mightn’t be all plain sailing.

Still, we have faith in the boys in green and reckon they’ll win comfortably in the first competitive (cough) international at the brand new stadium.

We’re going for Ireland to win on a 3-0 scoreline at 5/1.

Poor Wayne Rooney is the latest footballer to fall foul of the prying eyes of the British tabloids, who revealed his latest off-field exertions this weekend. In Rooney’s defence, at least it was a relatively decent looking escort he was scoring with this time around, rather than the grannies he was fond of in his youth.

With headline writers across the globe waiting to pen their ‘Rooney scores away from home again’ headlines, it seems inevitable that the Manchester United man will hit the net against Switzerland in the European Championship qualifier in Basle this evening.

Rooney hasn’t scored for England in 11 games, but was instrumental in all four of their goals against Bulgaria on Friday evening and ended his United scoring drought against West Ham recently.

At 9/2, put your money on Rooney to score the first goal of the night.

JOE’s Daily Double: Ireland to beat Andorra 3-0 @ 5/1 and Wayne Rooney to score the first goal in the England v Switzerland clash at 9/2.
