We’re tipping a Michael Jarvis trained gelding at Doncaster and backing Rafael Nadal to beat fellow Spaniard Fernando Verdasco at the US Open for today’s Daily Double.
By William Lattimore and Conor Heneghan
The Michael Jarvis trained KINGS DESTINY looks to have a decent opportunity to land the 1m2fur handicap (2.35) at Doncaster. He wasn`t able to dictate the pace last time out but still performed well, beaten by only four lengths by the well regarded Forte Dei Marmi. Top jockey Philip Robinson should have no problems taking them along and he could be hard to peg back with the right fractions being set today.
Kings Destiny can be backed at 7/1.
Rafael Nadal comes up against compatriot Fernando Verdasco in the US Open quarter-final at Flushing Meadows around midnight Irish time tonight. The World number 1 hasn’t lost and has rarely been troubled by Verdasco in their eleven career matches up to this point and should progress without little difficulty again in New York.
The last time they met in a major, in Australia in 2009, however, Verdasco brought Nadal to five sets in the longest singles match in Australian Open history. We can’t see a repeat performance tonight, but reckon that Verdasco might be good value to nick one set off the all-conquering Nadal, who is seeking to land his first US Open and complete a career Grand Slam.
Rafael Nadal to beat Fernando Verdasco 3-1 is available at 5/2.
