A pick from the 5.50 at Nottingham and an obscure League Cup clash form the basis of today’s Daily Double on yet another slow day of sport.

In the 5.50 at Nottingham, we like the look of LAJIDAAL, who won with plenty to spare over a mile and four furlongs at Pontefract last month. That outing showed that there is plenty of room for improvement in Hamdan Al Maktoum’s colt and he has a good chance over a longer distance this time around. LAJIDAAL can be backed at 7/2 for this one.

It’s slim pickings elsewhere this evening and for the second day in succession, we have been forced to pick from an obscure League Cup clash from across the water for the second half of today’s Daily Double.

Chesterfield take on Middlesborough this evening in a repeat of the famous FA Cup semi-final in 1997, which ‘Boro won after a replay following a six-goal thriller at Old Trafford. Chesterfield now ply their trade in League 2 under the stewardship of Ireland legend John Sheridan and will have it tough against a side tipped by many to win the Npower Championship this year.

Gordon Strachan’s side got off to a very slow start against Ipswich at the weekend and we have an inkling that Chesterfield might take advantage while their opponents are still settling into the season. Chesterfield to nick a draw against their more illustrious opponents is available at 5/2.

JOE’s Daily Double: Lajidaal (Nottingham 5.50 @ 7/2) and Chesterfield to draw with Middlesborough in the League Cup @ 5/2.
