The Sports Pages
The main sports features this morning concern the wild welcome the World Cup-winning Spanish national team received upon their return to Madrid yesterday.
The Sun has a very interesting piece on Barcelona’s continuous efforts to sway their former youth player and current Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas to the Catalan giants, with Barca defenders Gerard Pique and Charles Puyol forcing a Barcelona jersey over the player’s head in a prank yesterday.
Elsewhere, in transfer rumours, Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko is again the target of cash-rich Manchester City, with the Daily Mirror reporting that the Wolfsburg star is hopeful of a summer move to Manchester.
After Dzeko’s £35m transfer release clause expired recently, the German club has apparently raised the striker’s pricetag as high as £50m, though Dzeko is hopeful he can persuade the side to lower the figure, saying “It is an important moment of my career and I also explained that to the leaders of Wolfsburg.”
