For our special Friday 13th Daily Double, we fancy a Dessie Hughes gelding to triumph at Tramore and Tomas Berdych to make it three in a row against Roger Federer.
The domestic racing today is at Tramore and we like the look of SWIFTMARC in the opener at the Waterford track, the 5.25 Ladies’ Maiden Stakes. Swiftmarc won over hurdles in Punchestown in May and over 2 miles and 4 furlongs at Tipperary in June and the firm ground in Tramore should suit Dessie Hughes’ charge.
Hughes’ horses have been in good form this week, with four out of five making the places and Swiftmarc can add to that today. Take him to win at 11/4.
With little else happening this Friday, we’ve decided to turn our attention to tennis and the Rogers Cup in Toronto for the second half of today’s Daily Double. In a repeat of the Wimbledon quarter-final, Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych face off in a match which gets underway just after midnight Irish time.
Berdych has beaten Federer twice already this year, at Wimbledon and also in Miami in the spring and with Federer struggling for form, we fancy the big Czech to make it a hat-trick of victories over the World number three in three sets.
Berdych to beat Federer by two sets to one can be backed at 5/1.
JOE’s Daily Double: Swiftmarc (5.25 Tramore @ 11/4) and Berdych to beat Federer 2-1 @ 5/1.
