Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has jumped to the defence of the off-form Fernando Torres.

The Spaniard put in another dismal performance in the goalless draw against Birmingham at St. Andrews yesterday but Hodgson is standing by his man.

“I’m not at all concerned about him. As to whether he’s had a bad season or a good one, we will discuss that in May,” Hodgson said of Torres.

“We know he is lacking matches. He missed games towards the end of last season and he missed matches at the World Cup.

“I can’t stop what other people may or may not be saying, but I think he is working hard for the team and is a constant thorn in the side of defenders,” he added. More of Hodgson’s comments can be read in the Star.
