Sources close to the Indo claim Enda Kenny’s right-hand man, Fine Gael deputy leader Richard Bruton, has lost all confidence in the leader of the party.
According to the report the leadership challenge “will play out over the next 48 hoursâ€. It’s hard to say we didn’t see this coming. An upcoming general election has been reiterated by Mr Kenny on too many occasions without any follow through and now the backbenchers are beginning to squirm.
The above picture shows the pair in happier times at a press briefing on Fine Gaels blueprint for political reform at the Merrion Hotel Dublin back in March.
The Irish Times also has a stab at it and leads with “Bruton seeks support of FG members as leadership bid boomsâ€.
Meanwhile, The Irish Examiner runs a story of ‘man-stuff’ interest. A €30 million redevelopment plan for Páirc Uà Chaoimh in Cork will be voted on by city councillors today. “Supporters of the proposed project include Cork GAA legend Jimmy Barry Murphy and Cork senior hurling captain Kieran Murphy.â€
