The Sports Pages
With the World Cup out of the way, the silly season of rampant transfer speculation is finally upon us, especially in today’s sports pages.
The Sun is reporting that Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole is on his way to Real Madrid, with Madridista Iker Casillas quoted as saying “a clean break is something he is very much interested in.â€
Cole has had a tough time of it lately in the tabloid press, after his ill-fated picture message sending, marriage breakdown and inability to ever endear himself to the British public at large. Perhaps a much-vaunted £30m move towards his former boss Jose Mourinho is on the cards after all.
Finally, after signing a new contract to keep him at the club until 2013, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has set his sights on Sevilla and Brazil striker Luis Fabiano, according to the Daily Mirror.
With four international-level forwards already, it’s unclear where amongst the current set-up would Luis may fit, but either way, the striker 3 goals from an excellent World Cup have pricked the interest of managers worldwide. Harry has been quoted by the paper as saying: “I am not unhappy with the squad I have, but of course if a special player came along I would look at it, and Fabiano is a special player all right.â€
