After 38 years of waiting, the families of the 14 victims of Bloody Sunday have received justice.
The headline on the front of the Irish Times is a quote from British Prime Minister David Cameron’s official confirmation that all victims and injured parties were innocent. It reads, “On behalf of our country I am deeply sorry.â€
Mr Cameron’s apology came after the Saville inquiry affirmed the victim’s innocence and runs across all major broadsheets front pages. The Irish Examiner reads, “It is justice at last.â€
The report from the inquiry said that, “none of the dead had posed a threat (to the Parachute Regiment) and the actions of the soldiers were totally without justification,†as reported in the Irish Independent.
Meanwhile, the pressure is continuing to mount on Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny. 14 members of the party have yet to publicly support or take to the anti-Kenny side before the vote on his leadership goes ahead today.
The Irish Independent says that these members will decide the fate of Mr Kenny who already has 29 declared supporters from the party.
