The sole survivor of a boat fire off the coast of Castletownbere in west Cork is pictured on the front pages of all the main national broadsheets this morning following the tragedy.
Shortly after 5pm yesterday the blaze broke out on the Castaway cruiser while the four men were on an angling trip. The cruiser eventually sank before all men made it off the vessel and were later found by the Irish Coast Guard helicopter.
The three men who were killed in the boat tragedy were named locally as Richard Harman from Glengarriffe, and Germans Wolfgang Schmidt, who lived in Glengarriffe, and Wolfgang Schnoder, who lived in Bantry. All three men were in their 60s.
The survivor, American Ed Dziato (46), is from Connecticut but is living in Glengarriffe was last night treated at Bantry General Hospital. He is reported to be in a stable condition.
