19/08 The End of the Day

Home time. Time to shut shop and ready yourself for a relaxing evening watching ultra violence, orgies and Europa League football on TV tonight.

JOE

A view of artist David Mach’s sculpture ‘Die Harder’, at his workshop in London, England. The piece depicting Christ on a cross, is made from 3,000 coat hangers and forms part of a four-year-long project by the artist to mark the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible in 2011. It is due to be installed inside Gloucester Cathedral where it will hang along with other sculptures from renowned artists including Damien Hirst and Marc Quinn as part of the ‘Crucible’ exhibition.

Tonight’s Telly

Pick of the night: Spartacus: Blood and Sand, TV3, 10.00pm.

This really should have been entitled Spartacus: Blood, Sand and Sex as the series is comprised of ultra violence and regular romping. Goes down a treat in JOE’s book anyway. Manl you want, manly you shall receive tonight.

Sporting highlight: Live UEFA Europa League Football, UTV, 7.30pm.

Liverpool v Trabzonspor (Kick-off 7.45pm). Coverage of the first leg of the play-off round encounter at Anfield, as the Reds welcome the Turkish visitors. The winners of this tie will progress to the group stage.

Mood Swingometer

Today JOE has mostly been feeling…futuristic.

“At times it’s difficult to believe it really is 2010, particularly fashion-wise. Consider if you will, that Reebok’s iconic ‘Pump’ sports footwear range were launched in 1989, or that L.A Gear’s ‘Lights’ range were released in 1992 – yet nobody has bothered following their lead,” writes JOE journalist Emmet Purcell. Live Like JOE

Play ball like John O’Shea

Well, not exactly. But you can wear the same football boot as the Manchester United and Republic of Ireland defender as the new Concave PT+ Classic is now on sale in Ireland.
