Training was abandoned by Galway senior hurling boss John McIntyre last night when it emerged that 21 of his squad of players were nursing injuries.
The crisis comes at a bad time for the county, as they prepare for the upcoming Leinster SHC clash against Wexford in Nowlan Park on Saturday week.
Among those nursing knocks is All Star Ollie Canning who pulled out of Portumna’s weekend game after a picking up an ankle injury in training.
McIntyre is also sweating over the fitness of Damien Hayes, Ger Farragher, Niall Healy, Donal Barry and Eanna Ryan.
“In all my years involved in team management, I’ve never seen anything like this,” said the county coach. “Players are dropping like flies as the club action and hard ground takes its toll. The situation is a big worry with the Wexford game so close.”
