Live like JOE…
Indulge in a five-a-side and beer
Just because he somehow talked his way into being the organiser of this week’s semi-serious, fully dangerous five-a-side kickabout, your boss is pressurising you into making up the numbers. You consider the options: (a) a sunny patio with a tall German wheat-beer, or (b) running around keeping up the pretence, to yourself if no-one else, that you’re the athletic specimen you never really thought was possible, even in the days before all your dreams died.
Go on, root out the Holland jersey you picked up for a fiver from the bargain basket after Euro 2000, smack the dust and tiny rubber balls out of the runners you haven’t used in four years, and wheeze your way through an hour of running aimlessly round an Astroturf pitch.
You might not enjoy it but you’ll feel the benefits. And if you’re sufficiently smart not to go straight home afterwards, that German beer will taste all the better for an hour of sweat and toil.
Tonight’s Telly
Pick of the night: Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, BBC One, 11.15pm
Should be a laugh tonight with comedian Ross Noble (pictured above, right) as the primary guest. He’ll probably take the piss out of Gary Linekar’s ears who is obviously going to give his mundane opinion on the World Cup. The Gorillaz perform live as well so it’s worth tuning in.
More TV: Lost: Top 10 Greatest Scenes, Sky1, 10.30pm.
If you’re a Lost addict then this is an opportunity to see the best scenes of the survivor drama. If you never got into the show, and you’re thinking about buying the box-set, it’s a chance to familiarise yourself with the characters and the storyline.
JOE’s Mood Swingometer
Today we’re feeling… pressured
We like having fun. We live to have fun. But sometimes when people tell you that you have to have fun, that can take all the fun out of something. Take today: we know we normally go out on a Friday night, but on this occasion we want a takeaway curry and a few beers at home. It’s been a busy week. What’s wrong with that?
We may decide to head into town later, we just don’t want to feel that we have to. That’s all. We’re not in a bad mood. We don’t do moods. Women do moods. We do short sentences. Especially on Friday. It’s because of the pressure. But we don’t do moods. OK?
