21/06 End of the Day

Home time. Time to reflect on sunburns, think about using cream the next time and cool off watching Spain in the World Cup tonight.

JOE

Pic of the Day (above)

It’s a long one today.

Bubbles float past as revellers watch the midsummer sun rise just after dawn over the megalithic monument of Stonehenge on June 21, 2010 on Salisbury Plain, England. Thousands of revellers gathered at the 5,000 year old stone circle to see the sunrise on the Summer Solstice, which is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

Tonight’s Telly

Pick of the night: The Royle Family, BBC1, 9.00pm.

Another chance to see the one-off festive edition from last year called The Golden Egg Cup. Jim and Barbara have a barney over what to do with a cash wind-fall. Epic stuff.

Sporting highlight: Live World Cup 2010, RTE2 and UTV, from 7.00pm.

Spain v Honduras in Group H kicks-off at 7.30pm in Jo-burg. We are all expecting much better from the Spaniards after they were knocked on their asses by Switzerland last week. A win similar to Portugal’s 7-0 pummeling of North Korea earlier today would cut it for us tonight.

Follow all the action with JOE right here.

More TV: Chasing the Cumbrian Killer, CH4, 9.00pm.

The days leading up to events in and around Whitehaven, Cumbria, on 2 June, when Derrick Bird went on a killing spree that resulted in 12 dead, 11 injured and his own suicide. Harrowing stuff.

Mood Swingometer

Today JOE has mostly been feeling…burnt.

You’re not the only one who’s raw today. Of course the Irish cannot be told anything. We get a sniff of warm weather and we’re off without a smidge of suncream.

Today, thousands all over the country are feeling the after effects of a scalding from the blistering heat we’ve been, eh, enjoying.

I guess it’s too late to advise you to apply suncream. If not, then click here and get the full lowdown.
