23/07 The End of the Day

Home time. Time to resist a cry during Toy Story 3, watcha Ben Affleck in a good movie for a change, and celebrate the return of Chevy Chase.

Korean festivalgoers rock out at the Pentaport Rock Festival at Dream Park in Incheon, South Korea, which began today. Western acts at the Korean festival this year include The Stereophonics and Ian Brown.

Mood Swingometer

Today JOE has been feeling…manly.

Manly because we’ve heard the latest Toy Story 3 is a bit of a tear-jerker, with JOE writer Conor Hogan bravely admitting he sobbed like a little girl the whole time. See Conor, we told you that you shouldn’t have said anything. Either way, we’re preparing to check out the latest Pixar classic tonight, fully aware that at any moment the filmmakers may reduce us to wibbling wrecks. In preperation, we’ve been chewing tobacco, devouring steak and chopping lumber all day. Pixar – we’re ready.

Tonight’s Telly

Pick of the night: Community, 3e, 11.00pm.

If you still haven’t caught a chance to see possibly this year’s best new comedy, there’s no excuse. Chevy Chase is enjoying a mild career revival as one of the stars of the US sitcom, which stars Joel McHale and Derrick Comedy troupe member Donald Glover (YouTube them, they’re priceless). Community revolves around a group of mostly, mature students in a US community college, with Glover and Chase usually stealing the show every week.

Movie pick: Changing Lanes, More4, 9:00pm

Ben Affleck delivers a surprisingly nuanced drama-thriller alongside Samuel L. Jackson, which examines the implications of two strangers meeting in an emotionally charged setting, which the ramifications carrying over throughout the entire day. Affleck is an ambitious lawyer, Jackson a desperate father, who both become involved in an unfortunate car accident between one another. In the ensuing road-rage, a cold grudge between the two disparate individuals develops. Thrilling and thought-provoking matieral from both actors, we heartily recommend Changing Lanes if you’re staying in tonight.

Gah, do we actually need to explain this? Why are you still reading this part? There are women in bikinis modelling at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Miami Beach, and you’re sat here reading this paragraph. Enjoy the gallery, and remember, if anyone asks, it’s a ‘fashion article’.
