Ireland’s game against Paraguay and an all-weather pick from Lingfield form the basis of Tuesday’s Daily Double.
In racing, we’re going with COUNT CEPRANO in Lingfield’s one-mile handicap at 5.30.
Jeff Pearce’s gelding has produced some fair performances on the track in the past few months and may be ready to strike today. The six-year-old son of Desert Prince steps back up to a mile today, having been noted finishing well from off the pace in races over seven furlongs against Batchworth Blaise and Stanley Goodspeed.
There is a strong possibility of a lack of pace in this race, resulting in Count being left too much to do against horses with more tactical pace such as Signora Frasi. However, the extra furlong today could be the key for him, and at likely decent odds, it’s worth a shot that he can overhaul his rivals late on.
In football, the television cameras will be at the RDS for the first of the IRELAND’s end-of-season friendly internationals against a Paraguay side which will be competing in the World Cup finals in South Africa in less than three weeks’ time.
The South Americans performed well in qualifying, finishing just one point behind Brazil and ahead of Argentina, but Giovanni Trapattoni has picked his strongest possible side and the boys in green can take a morale-boosting victory.
