Two near(-ish) misses on Wednesday but we’ll give it another go today with bets from golf and horse-racing.
In golf, the PGA Tour continues in Texas this week where the Crowne Plaza Invitational takes place at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.
We’re going with Players Championship victor TIM CLARK to get right back into the swing of things and win his first round three-ball. Clark has finished 2nd, 2nd and 12th at this event over the past three years so the course clearly suits his game, and he was in fine form to win at Sawgrass a fortnight ago. Matt Kuchar and KJ Choi are difficult opponents but neither has torn up the Colonial in recent years so Clark looks the best bet.
DUSTY TRAIL (7.15, Clonmel) ran an eye-catching race at Gowran Park last time. Having been caught out wide early and forced to cover extra ground throughout the race, he made rapid headway on the outside, showing fine sectional speed, to lead into the straight before understandably tiring a little on his first run since October last year.
He has a good claimer aboard in Joseph O Brien and if he can obtain a good position from stall 13 and get him settled into a rhythm in the race, Dusty Trail can use his fine turn of foot to pounce in the straight. Given he was once rated in the mid 70s, he looks quite well handicapped off 57.
JOE’s Daily Double: Tim Clark to win his three-ball (Crowne Plaza Invitational @ 11/8) & Dusty Trail (Clonmel, 7.15 @ 5/1)
