AC Milan have confirmed that former Cagliari boss Massimiliano Allegri will replace Leonardo as manager of the Italian giants.
Allegri, 42, has signed a two year contract at the San Siro which will last until 30 June, 2012, replacing Brazilian Leonardo, who lasted only one season as the club’s manager, guiding them to a third place finish last season.
Allegri is highly rated in Italy and was awarded the Panchina d’Oro (Golden bench) as the best coach in Serie A for the last two seasons, having led the club to 9th and 12th place finishes. Speculation linking him to the Milan job has circulated for some time but Milan had to wait until Allegri negotiated the termination of his contract with his old club.
Fans of the Rossoneri will be hoping that Allegri can guide them to a Serie A title, a title that has eluded the club since 2004 and has been claimed by city rivals, Inter Milan for the last five seasons.
