According to the Russian news source Sovetsky Sport, Aiden McGeady has completed all the necessary formalities and will be officially revealed as a Spartak Moscow player by the end of the week.
The news is as expected. Spartak Moscow outbid Aston Villa, paying around £9.5m to Celtic for the 24-year-old Scottish-born Irish midfielder. Having travelled to Russia and passed his medical, there are no further obstacles to overcome.
Spartak Moscow are the biggest team in Russia. However, they have failed to win the Russian Premier League for almost a decade, last topping the table in 2001.
At most home games they can expect an attendance of around 10,000.
Spartak will face Moscow rivals Lokomotiv this weekend, but McGeady is not anticipated to make his debut in red and white until the following weekend (21 August) when Spartak host Tom Tomsk of Siberia.
