If someone you know is coming home to Ireland today then you would want to pick them up at the door of Dublin Airport because the airport taxi strike has now gone into its second day.

If you’re heading out to the airport today for whatever reason then expect to see a little bit of disruption being caused by taxi drivers as they continue their airport strike for the second day.

So, what exactly will you be hearing at about at 2am on Saturday morning while you’re been driven home from the pub?

Well, the lads are on strike because the Dublin Airport Authority has taken back 70 parking spaces that it had made available to taxi drivers back in 2010, while T2 was being built.

The DAA claims that taxi representatives had been informed of the move by post over a month ago. In the letter the DAA said that it needed between 60 and 70 of the spaces back and stated that almost 60 extra spaces were provided when T2 opened up. Basically, the DAA are saying that the taxi drivers aren’t losing any spaces that were initially there back in 2010.

“The amendment to taxi space provision at the airport will mean that taxi drivers will have exactly the same number of spaces this year as they had in 2010, despite the number of airport taxi permit holders declining by more than 300 during the same period,” the DAA said.

The DAA did give 30 of the spaces back to the taxi drivers as a ‘gesture of goodwill’, however, this doesn’t seem to have been enough.

The strike continues…
