A survey conducted by MicksGarage.com has found that almost a quarter of Irish motorists regularly use their phone, while nearly 10 per cent ‘always’ use their mobiles behind the wheel.
If you’re planning on doing some driving this Bank Holiday weekend then you might want to look into getting a hands-free Bluetooth phone kit. That’s because a whopping 64 per cent of Irish people still do not currently own one, however, only four per cent of people admitted to never using their mobile while behind the wheel. So what are the other 60 per cent of you doing? You’re breaking the law by the sounds of it.
The survey, which was conducted by MicksGarage.com, looked at phone usage while driving in over 240 Irish motorists. It found that 30 per cent of people who own a hands-free kit regularly use it, 6 per cent rarely use their hands-free kit, while 64 per cent still don’t own one.
However, that hasn’t stopped motorists from using their mobiles behind the wheel. According to the results, 4 per cent never use their phone, 38 per cent rarely use it, 26 per cent moderately use it, 24 per cent often use it and 8 per cent always use it.
Worryingly, 62 per cent of people said that their phone distracted them while driving. So make sure you play it safe this weekend by using your hands-free device.
