Tests carried out on the country’s petrol pumps have found that around 16 per cent of people aren’t getting exactly what they paid for at the pumps.
There’s nothing worse than coming out of a shop only to realise that you’ve been short changed. The only thing that’s worse is being short changed without even knowing it. So that’s why some people might feel a little uneasy when leaving a petrol station, wondering if they’ve gotten exactly what they paid for. However, a new survey has practically debunked that myth.
The survey, which was carried out by the AA on more than 170 pumps in Dublin, Wicklow, Cork, Kilkenny, Meath, Westmeath and Limerick, found that the faulty pumps where more likely to give motorists more petrol than they paid for, rather than short changing them.
Of the petrol pumps tested by the AA, 10 per cent were found to be giving out too much petrol, while only 6 per cent were dispensing too little.
So why are some pumps giving out free fuel while others are costing us extra every time we fill up our tanks? The AA stressed that the problem was down to the poor calibration of the pumps and not because Tex Richman want’s all of your money.
