According to Google’s 2011 Zeitgeist, Irish people were most interested in searching for bargains, shuffling and celebrities with notable asses this year.
Every year, Google releases the most searched for terms on its search engine in numerous regions to find out the year’s biggest trends and with regard to notable rear ends, petite Pippa Middleton and curvy Kim Kardashian topped the poll in the fastest rising searched for people and most searched celebrity categories respectively.
Elsewhere, Irish Classifieds website Done Deal was revealed as the fastest rising search term, while ‘How to Shuffle’ was the question most asked of Google by Irish internet users.
In other categories, Pottermore, the Harry Potter online reading experience launched by author JK Rowling was the most searched topic in the ‘What is ?’ category, while bafflingly, it seems that a large percentage of prudish Irish people are unaware of the practice of cuddling up to their partner as the second most searched topic was revealed as ‘What is Spooning?’
Reflecting that our native games are still the most important (or that the games are so scattered that constant searching is a must), GAA fixtures 2011 was the most searched for topic in the sporting category. Alarmingly, wrestling extravaganza WWE 12 was seemingly more popular than the Six Nations, Wimbledon and Rory McIlroy’s Twitter feed.
Orlando was the most searched for travel destination, eBay was top of the pile when it came to shopping searches and showing that the Irish people are well in touch with their dark side, controversial joke website Sickipedia was the most searched for topic in the entertainment category.
