Everybody’s favourite loud mouthed motoring journalist, Jeremy Clarkson, was in the news recently after he said some things he probably shouldn’t. Now he’s told us there will be no Top Gear this year.

You better put your life-sized Stig costume away for the time being as your Sunday evening regular, Top Gear, won’t be airing again until 2013. That’s right, a whole year from now. Sure, we could be in hover cars by that stage.

So what exactly is stopping Clarkson, Capt. Slow and the Hamster from making an appearance on our screens this year? Only the ruddy 2012 London Olympics, according to Jalopnik.

Speaking to a South African radio show recently, Clarkson was talking about an upcoming live show in the country, which will feature the three lads in all their glory.

Clarkson then goes on to say, “It’s about the only time the three of us get to work together this year, because there is no Top Gear on this year”.

So when you’re flicking through the channels on a Sunday evening this summer and all that’s on is some bird prancing around an arena with a hula-hoop, you’ll know who to blame for changing the scheduling. Damn you BBC.

You can listen to the whole radio interview below, but skip to around 8.14 for the bit that matters.
