An airport over in the UK has found a novel way to scare unwanted birds off the runway… by blasting Tina Turner music at the little feckers until they fly off.

One of the biggest problems airports have to deal with on a daily basis is having to shoo off birds that land on the runway. Now, you might not think a bird would be a big nuisance, but if one of them managed to get into the engine of an airplane all hell could break loose. That’s why Gloucestershire Airport in Staverton has begun blasting Tina Turner classics, such as ‘Simply the Best’, in an attempt to move their birds.

Head of Operations at the airport, Darren Lewington, told the Gloucestershire Echo: “Normally we use the speakers on the top of the vehicle we use to drive around the airport to play bird distress calls.

“But when our bird distress noises weren’t working properly, they turned the tape player on, and that day it was Tina Turner who scared the birds away.”

At least someone has finally found a good use for all those old Tina Turner tapes.
