UAE club Al Ahli have pulled off a major coup by securing the signature of Italy defender Fabio Cannavaro.

The Italian, the only defender ever to win the Fifa World Player of the Year, has agreed a two-year deal with Al Ahli, according to a statement from the club.

Al Ahli have also revealed that they are chasing the signature of Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

In a clear statement of intent the UAE League side have agreed a two year deal with the Juventus defender and he will join on a free transfer after playing for Italy at the World Cup.

Al Ahli has recently come under the stewardship of new chairman Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah and former Bolton chief Mark Bell.

36-year-old Cannavaro is Italy’s most capped player of all time, with 132 appearances. He signed on a free transfer and will link up with the club when the new season starts in mid-September.
