Meath minor star Liam Tolan lost his life in a road tragedy on Saturday night, just hours after playing for his county in a Leinster MFC clash.
Tolan is believed to have been a passenger in a car which left the road and crashed into a ditch at Kilbrew, near Ashbourne, at around midnight on Saturday night.
He was taken by ambulance to Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The 17-year-old had played at corner forward in the Meath minor team which lost to Offaly in a Leinster Championship encounter at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday afternoon.
He scored one point in the game and provided the opening for his side’s goal in the first half.
A member of the Skryne club, Tolan was a key player in the Meath Vocational Schools’s side which lifted the Leinster title earlier this year.
