Jose Mourinho has said he believes the Champions League is a bigger tournament than the Fifa World Cup.
The Inter Milan coach made the comments as his team prepares to appear in the competition’s final against Bayern Munich in Madrid’s Bernabeu Stadium on Saturday.
“This game is the most important in the world,” said the Portuguese coach.
He continued, “It is even bigger than the World Cup because the teams in it are at a higher level than national teams, who can’t buy the best players.”
The 47-year-old has brought Inter to the final of Europe’s biggest club competition for the first time since their loss to Ajax in the 1972 European Cup final. If the Italian side claim the trophy, it will be the first time they have done so in 45 years.
