Chelsea 1-0 Portsmouth
Carlo Ancelotti has led Chelsea to the first domestic league and cup double in their history after a Didier Drogba goal was enough to overcome Portsmouth at Wembley this afternoon.
Drogba struck a cracking free kick from twenty five yards in the 58th minute; only minutes after Kevin Prince Boateng missed an opportunity to give Portsmouth the lead from the penalty spot.
The Blues were the dominant side throughout and somehow found themselves level at the break, despite hitting the woodwork an astounding five times in the first half, including a shocking miss from Salomon Kalou, who somehow managed to hit the crossbar from three yards with the goal at his mercy.
Michael Ballack had to limp off in the first half after a heavy challenge from Kevin Prince Boateng and it was Ballack’s replacement, Juliano Belletti, who gave away a penalty after clumsily challenging Aruna Dindane in the penalty area.
Following Boateng’s miss from the spot, Portsmouth never really threatened Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal and Avram Grant’s men were lucky not to find themselves even further behind after Frank Lampard uncharacteristically missed a penalty with only minutes left on the clock.
Chelsea held on for victory, however, to claim the FA Cup trophy for the third time in four seasons and the sixth time in their history.
