Brazil easily defeated Chile on Monday night in Johannesburg to advance to the quarter finals of the World Cup thanks to goals from Juan, Luis Fabiano and Robinho.

Chile had 15 shots to Brazil’s 17. Brazil had 51% of the possession. These statistics suggest an even match. In the end, it was no such thing.

Chile started well and were probably the better team for the first fifteen minutes. For the rest of the match, however, Brazil took complete control.

Brazil opened their account after 34 minutes, when central defender Juan rose highest to head home Maicon’s corner.

Their lead was doubled just three minutes later when Kaka slipped in Luis Fabiano who rounded Claudio Bravo before slotting the ball into the net.

From that point on the match was virtually over as a contest. Brazil coasted the second half and never needed to get out of second gear.

Chile created practically nothing, Julio Cesar wasn’t tested, and Brazil even managed to add a third when Ramires played in Robinho, who blasted the ball past Bravo.

It was the eight time in a row Brazil had beaten Chile. Dunga’s side will now face Holland in the quarter finals.
