Ciaran Whelan believes that Meath will find it very difficult to appoint a manager to replace Eamonn O’Brien.

Eamonn O’Brien (pictured) was surprisingly sacked last week as Meath manager, when club delegates voted 32 to 29 to remove him.

“We won a Leinster title for the first time in nine years and we beat a Dublin team in the championship for the first time in nine years,” O’Brien said.

“But, obviously, these things didn’t count for enough. I’d have to say I am very surprised and disappointed.”

Former Dublin footballer Ciaran Whelan believes that Meath will struggle to find a manager to replace O’Brien.

“There’s no doubt that Meath have made progress under Eamonn O’Brien over the past two years,” Whelan said in his exclusive column with JOE.ie.

“Given the structures in place, I doubt there will be too many interested parties from outside the county.

“Top managers will be looking at the way in which Eamonn Barry and Eamonn O’Brien have been ousted and they won’t be too keen on allowing their name to go forward if they’re not going to be sure of support from the top.”
