Carlos Tevez grabbed a brace as Manchester City eased to a 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Eastlands on Monday evening.

Former Liverpool target Gareth Barry was also on the mark for Roberto Mancini’s side, who were the better side throughout and well worth their victory.

Barry opened the scoring for the hosts after 13 minutes, side-footing the ball to the net after debutant James Milner pulled the ball back from the right wing.

Tevez added the second seven minutes after the break, tapping the ball in from a yard out after Micah Richards had flicked on Adam Johnson’s corner.

Johnson, who was a real handful throughout, was also involved in City’s third on 67 minutes. The winger cut in from the right wing and was scythed down in the penalty area, leaving referee Phil Dowd with little option but to point to the spot.

Tevez stepped up and sent Pepe Reina the wrong way to put the result beyond doubt. Roberto Mancini’s side now lie in fourth place in the table behind Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.
