Yesterday we brought you the harrowing news that there will be no Top Gear featured on the BBC this year and now we know why.

There’s nothing better than sticking the feet up on a Sunday evening and watching Top Gear to see how deep of a hole Jeremy Clarkson manages to dig himself into. Sadly for every petrol head who has grown accustom to watching the Top Gear antics every week, there won’t be any new episodes until late this year.

Yesterday we broke the news as best we could and it was reported by Jalopnik that the yearlong hiatus was due to the London Olympics. However, according to Mr Top Gear himself, Jeremy Clarkson, it has nothing to do with women in leotards and hula-hoops and more to do with Simon Cowell and his 100+ different reality talent shows. More to the point, it’s because of ‘fat people singing’. Well if that isn’t a swipe at poor Susan Boyle…

Clarkson took to the Twittersphere last night and said the following:

So, when you sit down expecting to see your favourite motoring presenters hoon around in the latest supercars, but all you see is ‘fat people singing’, you’ll know who to blame. Damn you Simon Cowell.
