Scoot over Cmdr. Hadfield, there’s a new awesome astronaut in town… or space rather.
It seems that as well as training astronauts how to become expert moonwalkers, the people over at NASA are teaching their space guys and gals how to keep the Irish Twitterati well and truly over the moon.
Since celebrity spaceman Commander Chris Hadfield returned to Earth to become a tourism ambassador for Ireland – a much better career choice than spending your days exploring the farther reaches of the known universe – we, the people of Ireland have had a gaping ‘what-does-our-country-look-like-from-space’ black hole in our lives.
Fear not though, as Hadfield’s successor, Col. Douglas H. ‘Wheels’ Wheelock, has recently taken up residence in the International Space Station and yesterday tweeted this fantastically festive picture of a glowing Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day. He even managed a cúpla focail while he was at it…
Hello, Ireland…from space! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Lá fhéile Pádraig sona dhaoibh! pic.twitter.com/T9o8j0u0Zo

Cmdr. Hadfield will always have a place in our hearts though and, not to be outdone, tweeted a St. Patrick’s Day greeting of his own.
He was outdone though. Because the other guy was in space…
From an Inishowen pub with some fine Irish musician friends, here’s wishing everyone a Happy St. Patrick’s Day http://t.co/x6OSQ7dWL1
