Early (and a shade sketchy) rumours are suggesting that there could be not just one, but two more Apple iPads released before the year is out.
Considering that there was nearly a year-long gap between the release of the first two editions of the tablet device, the release of two new ones before the end of 2012 seems just a tad far-fetched, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour-mongers spreading the word on the interweb.
According to DigiTimes, the rumours originate from sources in Taiwan, who are claiming that an iPad 3, with a higher resolution HD display screen and longer battery life will be shipped by Apple in March, and that an iPad 4, complete with “much upgraded hardware specifications and integrated applications” will be on its way in October of this year.
As well as enticing consumers keen to get their hands on the latest Apple gismo, the release of the iPad 3 will also enable Apple to slash the price of the iPad 2 in an effort to see off competition from rivals such as Samsung, Microsoft, Amazon and Google, who are reported to be planning to launch their own-brand tablet device in April.
The release of two iPads this year is only idle industry talk for now, but Apple have already revealed plans for a major announcement at a media event in New York next month.
Well-placed sources have suggested that it is unlikely to have anything to do with a follow up to current iPad, but there might be a surprise in store.
