If you’re a fan of long-distance running then you better listen up, as doing one too many marathons could end up killing you, warns a new report.

You already know that not exercising enough can lead to an early grave, but did you know that exercising too hard for too long could actually kill you? The message to long-distance runners and endurance athletes is to do “just one or a few” because you could end up damaging your heart to the point of no return.

Now they’re not saying that going for a jog for 50mins is going to kill you. It’s the lads that do a few marathons a year and constantly train for them that are in bother.

Basically, the scientists say that the heart just isn’t designed for pumping high volumes of blood for long periods of time and that over exercising could eventually deform the heart’s chambers, which could lead to potentially fatal complications.

Speaking about their report the scientists from St Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City said, “running too fast, too far, and for too many years may speed one’s progress towards the finish line of life.”

You’ve been warned…
