A local City Council over in the UK wants to cut down on the number of home repairs it does for its tenants, so they’re planning on handing out free DIY DVDs.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council wants to spend a whopping £10,000 (€12,300) on privately made DIY DVD’s for it’s 19,000 tenants. They could have just sent them over to JOE’s DIY section, but how and ever.

The City Council hopes the new DVD will encourage people to do their own minor repair work instead of calling the council out to do it. Some DIY repairs included on the DVD for tenants to do themselves includes changing a light bulb, how to unblock a sink and how to bleed radiators.

Fairly straight forward repairs you may have thought, but some tenants still call out the council when a light bulb needs replacing. Would your local council do the same? Probably not, they’d have more cop-on.

However there seems to be a bit of a flaw in their DVD scheme. What are they going to do with the tenants who don’t own DVD players? Send them down to B&Q for a few hours? Who knows.

The council will debate the DIY DVD scheme later this week before it’s rolled out across Stoke-on-Trent. Do you think they should implement the same sort of thing over here? Comment below.
