Jean de Villiers told namesake Peter de Villiers that he made the “wrong decision” in signing for Munster, the South Africa coach has claimed.
According to reports in the Irish Independent, the Springboks coach said yesterday, “He (Jean de Villiers) called me soon after he arrived there and said he had made the wrong decision.”
Jean de Villiers moved to Munster from Western Province in September 2009 on a one-year contract with an option to renew for another two years.
He made his debut against Newport-Gwent Dragons in the Magners League on 27 September at Musgrave Park, when he started alongside Lifeimi Mafi in the Munster midfield as a late call-up after Keith Earls was forced withdraw through illness.
However, it was announced on 15 February that the South African international would leave Munster and return to South Africa at the end of the season.
