According to reports this morning, there are a fair few people in Thurles who have a sneaking suspicion that Lar Corbett has bagged a handsome lotto jackpot.
It was revealed on Wednesday that someone from the south of the country had scooped the largest Lotto jackpot of 2013, but it’s still not clear who exactly won the prize. Rumours suggest it could have been the two-time All-Ireland winning hurler Lar Corbett, mainly because he’s staying tight lipped about the whole thing.
The Irish Independent tried contacting the Tipperary man regarding the win, however, he replied that he had only touched down in New York and he “didn’t know anything”. Now, he never said he ‘did’ win the ticket, but he never said he ‘didn’t’ either, which has raised the suspicions of some. Maybe he’s planning to splash some newly acquired cash while in New York?
The ticket, worth €10.6m, was sold in Scanlon’s Newsagents on Liberty Square in the town earlier in the week, and a Lotto spokesperson said that no one has claimed the prize as of yet.
In fairness to Lar, his trip to New York was made with good intentions as he’s over there to lend a hand in helping Hurricane Sandy victims this week. It would certainly be a nice win All-Ireland star – if he did actually win, that is.
