A Freedom of Information Act request has revealed some of the more oddball call outs that UK fire fighters have had to face, including one DIY disaster.
We’ve all heard of some strange emergency call-outs in the past but they’re generally just hearsay and nine times out of ten they’re over exaggerated. However, thanks to a Freedom of Information Act request over in the UK we’re hearing the oddball callout stories straight from the horse’s mouth.
One woman in Leicestershire had what you might call a DIY disaster after she managed to get herself trapped inside a flat-pack wardrobe while she was assembling it at home. Now there’s a warning label IKEA probably never thought about.
Don’t feel too bad about the woman’s DIY blunder as a fire fighter at the scene said: “She wasn’t that unhappy as she had her cigarettes with her while she was waiting to be rescued.” At least she had her priorities straight.
Other unexpected call outs included 49 separate incidences of people having rings stuck on their fingers (seems logical to call the fire brigade), stag party c*ck up’s and a man who had his toe stuck in the bath tap – even though his wife told him not to put it up there, reports The Telegraph.
Commenting on the stranger call outs one fire fighter from the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said “Sometimes, if it’s a stag do when somebody is stuck in handcuffs or chained to a phone box, then you can have a bit of banter with them.
“Otherwise, it’s all done with a straight face because it’s all part of the service.”
