DIY taxidermist turns pet cat into helicopter… of sorts

A Dutch artist (which already explains a lot) decided he didn’t want to part with his beloved pet cat just yet. So he turned it into a helicopter – as you do.

As DIY hobbies go, we believe flat-pack furniture is a cleaner pastime than taxidermy… but all to their own. Here we have a video of a slightly strange homemade creation made by a Dutch artist called Bart Jansen.

Jansen first stuffed his pet cat Orville, named after Orville Wright – of the Wright Brothers – after the cat was killed by a car. After a little time grieving, Jansen teamed up with radio control helicopter aficionado Arjen Beltman. We take it the grieving process took its toll on poor Jansen.

The pair had to make a specially designed flying mechanism from scratch to attach to the cat, which you can see protruding from the poor things paws. It’s not exactly how we imagine you might spend your DIY downtime in the shed, or what you might do if your beloved pet died, but clearly other people do this stuff.

Jansen’s DIY kitty creation is called the Orvillecopter, and it’s now on show at the Kunstrai art festival in Amsterdam where visitors can watch Orville flying for themselves.

However, if you’re not a*sed going over to Holland to see a homemade flying cat-copter then check out the video below.
