A newly published etiquette guide for moviegoers details all the right and wrong things to do while at the cinema, but is there anything they’ve missed?
There’s nothing quite like going to the cinema to watch the latest blockbuster, unless you’re surrounded by loud mouths who won’t stop talking, crisp packet crinklers and ‘overly affectionate couples’. At least that’s according to a new etiquette guide for moviegoers, which was recently published by the cinema chain Empire over in the UK.
We first spotted this story over on our sister site Her.ie and they say that “it’s a tad dictatorial, the fact that a cinema chain has brought out an etiquette guide seems like a pretty good idea”. We’d have to agree.
Take a gander below at what’s included in Empire’s etiquette guide and let us know if they’ve left anything out. We’d like to also point out that the last bit of no.6 seems a bit harsh…
1. Keep talking to a minimum; save the chat for after the film.
2. Enjoy your treats quietly; keep rustling to a minimum.
3. Keep public displays of affection until after the film.
4. No mobile phones; keep all mobile phone use until after the film including texting, social networking and internet usage.
5. Keep feet off chairs; remember your fellow cinema-goers have to sit in them.
6. Don’t disturb your fellow cinema goers; arrive on time/no getting up to go to the toilet.
7. No removing of shoes; keep your foot odour confined to your shoes.
8. No littering; take your leftovers with you and no popcorn fights.
9. No plot spoilers; don’t ruin the movie ending for others by posting on social media.
10. Allocated seating; no sitting in other peoples pre-booked seats.
