John Joe Doherty has stepped down as Donegal manager in the wake of his side’s All-Ireland senior qualifier collapse against Armagh at the weekend.
Donegal were never in contention at Crossmaglen, conceding two early goals en route to a 2-14 to 0-11 defeat.
The manner of their exit prompted stern criticism from pundits and supporters alike, and Doherty has opted to offer his resignation to the County Board.
A member of the county’s All-Ireland-winning side of 1992, Doherty was appointed to the manager’s position in late 2008 but has failed to engineer an Ulster championship challenge in his two years in charge.
