Kerry’s ‘Star’, Kieren Donaghy, has quickly turned his attention to the Munster semi-final with neighbours Cork on 6 June following a comprehensive victory over Tipperary on Sunday.

Donaghy, who teetered on the fringes of the Kerry team last season as he struggled with injury, boomed back into form at full-forward against Tipperary and provided ample assistance for Brian Sheehan and Colm Cooper to rack up the scores in a 12-point victory.

“Bryan (Sheehan) did extremely well. Very clinical in his finishing and, yeah, the ‘Gooch’ was very good, showing well for ball and he kicked a few fabulous scores in the first half. I don’t think the cameras will do them justice, but those ones from the left side into the breeze were tough and they were great scores. That gave us the impetus in the second half,” Donaghy told the GAA’s official website.

“They put it up to us for long spells. We were playing into a stiff breeze there in the first half and we knew going in a point up at half-time that they were going to find it hard playing into that breeze if we put pressure on them out the field. I thought our backs did a good job as soon as it opened up in the second half,” he added.

Focusing on the Munster SFC semi-final with the old enemy in three weeks, the ‘Star’, is eager to have a crack after intensive winter training.

“Cork will be tough. But we’re up for it. We’re looking forward to it. These are the games we train for. This is what we do all the slogging for back in January and February, in the muck and rain in Austin Stacks Park.”
