England striker Wayne Rooney has said he does not want to be dubbed ‘Sir Wayne’ and that footballers should not be given knighthoods by the British royal family.
The 24-year-old was quizzed on the subject after appearing in an advert in which he was given a knighthood by the Queen.
However, the Manchester United star responded, “No, I don’t think about anything like that.†He continued, “Personally, playing football, I don’t think you should become a Sir.â€
The former Everton player added, “There are other people doing things in the world who deserve it a lot more.â€
The striker also revealed that he occasionally has trouble sleeping if there is no background noise. He said he often resorts to leaving hairdryers and fans on, and sleeping on the floor during long-haul flights so he can hear the noise of the engine.
