Didier Drogba has been given permission to play with a protective cast on his arm in the Ivory Coast’s Group G opener with Portugal.
It looked as if the Chelsea striker might miss out on the tournament altogether after suffering a broken arm in a warm up match with Japan prior to the tournament.
Drogba had surgery on the injured arm the day after sustaining the injury, however and the captain of the Elephants has been given the all clear to line out by Jorge Larrionda, who will referee the clash with Portugal in Port Elizabeth.
FIFA’s head of media Nicolas Maingot said: “Regarding Didier Drogba, the referee of the match Jorge Larrionda has okayed the cast which Didier Drogba will use to play. The cast has been seen by the Portuguese delegation.”
